Presentation effects - want to place your image inside a glass sphere? You can find Photo Shop effects tutorials to do precisely that on the internet. You can find different ways to manipulate your images. You can put an object in space, traveling at light speed. You can place yourself in field of flowers. You can turn your picture into an oil painting. A Photo Shop effects tutorial will teach you how to do these things and more. With Photo Shop, your imagination is the limit. Photography - many photographers today resort to using special filters and customizing their cameras to get different effects. They take pictures in ultra-red, monochrome, and other styles to give people a whole new perspective of the world. Some Photo Shop effects tutorials can teach you how to make it seem like you took a picture using the same techniques as professionals do. This is certainly something every person wants, right?

Just in case you’re not satisfied with the tutorials on site (highly unlikely), you can click on their links to find out more. If online tutorials are not enough, the homepage displays links to the latest DVDs and tutorial videos. You can check out their product reviews before you buy. This is a great, comprehensive site that has enough tricks to offer to beginners and the more experienced. www.sketchpad.net The tutorials on this site are clear and straightforward. For beginners, this site is a big help, especially if you have little or no prior knowledge about how Photoshop works. If you’re a moderately experienced Photoshop user, there are retouching tutorials you can learn in three different levels, enough to improve your skills. You can also challenge yourself with the online projects.

Learning photoshop cs with the photoshop cs tutorials. Techniques and Tools - After passing the basics, the tutorials can next lead you to navigate the selections on painting, drawing and creating shapes. This will dwell on how you can do filling, cropping, cloning, sampling, annotation and retouching. This part of the Photoshop CS tutorial will help you appreciate more how the Internet web sites and web in general are structured. You will see how graphics and animation basically operates.

Adobe Photoshop today is the world’s leading digital imaging software program, and it allows users to edit their pictures with an amazing array of tools. Tone - With just a click of your mouse, you can immediately turn your 100% colored photo into a black and white picture to make it seem older. You can also choose to give it a sepia look for a similarly quaint but more artistic impact. Text - With the help of an Adobe Photo Shop tutorial on effects, you can also add cute text or captions to and within your photos. Unlike older programs which require you to copy and paste text with white backgrounds, Adobe Photo Shop has a transparent background so that only the very shapes of the letters are pasted on your photo. With this option, the text you’re adding will be made a part of the very photo.

When it comes to image post-production, Photoshop has given professionals and amateurs a magic wand with which to alter and improve images. Since the advent of digital photography in the 90s, Photoshop has been the standard with which photographers improve finished photo quality. Photoshop is also changing the art scene, allowing artists to create original pieces or artwork using program tools. Photoshop artwork has appeared in books, comic books, architecture designs and more notably, in special-effect films.

Understanding Contrast - You see this term being used a lot when describing art or even when discussing about adjustment levels of a plasma TV. But do you really understand what contrast is? To put thing simply, contrast is the ability of a certain object, in this case that would be Photo Shop, to display the contrast or difference between dark and light colors or the difference between black and white. In a monochromatic photo, contrast is especially important because it makes distinguishing various objects in the photo easier. In colored photos, contrast is important when the photo has a particularly dark background.

The interface is clear and well laid out, a great feature for the digital photo editing beginner is the use of descriptive icons, where you hang your mouse over an icon and it shows a description of its function. Organizing your photos is a snap, Elements allows you to manage, sort, delete and view your picture collection in many different ways including face tagging and keyword tagging. It also displays an exhaustive list of file properties for each of your images so you’ll never misplace a photo on your hard drive again. Also, a partnership between Adobe and Kodak gives you the opportunity to share photos online, print greetings cards, custom calendars or photo books. Before you eject the install cd, make sure you copy the Goodies folder to your hard drive - it contains loads of frames, backgrounds and extras to play around with.

Get rid of the annoyances you feel when photoshop is the topic

by David Peters

Quite often, many basic editing tasks can be done in the camera itself after the picture is taken including some simple cropping, removing red eye from flash photos, and rotation from landscape to portrait and vice versa. For many people, this is about all that they require anyway before printing out their snapshots, and this keeps things very easy and simple. But to start to realize the potential that digital photography puts in the hands of the average person, a photo editing software program will be needed where you upload your photos from the camera to your computer and then open them in the program. You can then begin to perform all kinds of editing tasks including more advanced cropping, change the file size or format, adjust color saturation, contrast and brightness, and apply special effects.

With Photoshop you can easily make yourself or anyone look better. You can even change the colors of the clothing people are wearing. You will be amazed by the results you can achieve with Photoshop. You will not only be able to improve the appearance of people but you will be able to completely remove people from the photograph, add people from other photos or change the background. Master these Photoshop techniques and you will be in demand for photo editing and graphic design projects. People with these types of skills are in needed for photo retouching, web design work, logo design, advertising, and more. Not only can you have fun touching up your own photos but you could start a business doing photo enhancements.

Take sides. If you are going to print your images as, say, 4-inch by 6-inch frameable prints, crop them to the correct ratio before you save the versions you are going to print. Suppose you have a picture that’s 400 pixels on one side and 600 pixels on the other. That’s the correct ratio and you’re all set. But if it’s 500 pixels on one side and 700 on the other - a 5:7 ratio instead of a 4:6 ratio - you’ll have to do some cropping if you want the printed picture to fit perfectly into the 4-inch by 6-inch space. Run your calculator (all computers have one) and do some of that 5th Grade math you’ve almost forgotten.

Sharpening is one of the most impressive transformations you can apply to an image since it seems to bring out image detail that was not there before. What it actually does, however, is to emphasize edges in the image and make them easier for the eye to pick out - while the visual effect is to make the image seem sharper, no new details are actually created. The first step in sharpening an image is to blur it slightly. Next, the original image and the blurred version are compared one pixel at a time. If a pixel is brighter than the blurred version it is lightened further; if a pixel is darker than the blurred version, it is darkened. The result is to increase the contrast between each pixel and its neighbors. The nature of the sharpening is influenced by the blurring radius used and the extent to which the differences between each pixel and its neighbor are exaggerated.

So what are the mechanics of this “through the lens” shot to achieve the ghosting effect? 1. Stabilize the camera - using a tripod is best, a stable surface is a second option or, a steady hand as a last resort; 2. Set number of multiple exposures you require for the frame to (N) - usually 1 to 9; 3. For the roll of film in your SLR, determine the film speed (S); 4. Reset the camera film speed (Yes, you can override the setting) to (N S) or, if not an exact match, set it to the absolute closest speed ((N S) adjustment); 5. Take your picture, depressing the shutter button for a total count equalling the number of camera exposures you set in step “2″. Example: 1. You want 6 exposures on the frame (N=6) so set the number of multiple exposures to ‘6′; 2. You’ve determined the film speed is 200 (S=200); 3. Reset the camera film speed to ‘1200′ (= 200 6); 4. Depress the shutter button 6 times (for 6 exposures). REMEMBER: Check and reset the SLR film speed and number of exposures to their original settings before continuing with your next shot. Some SLRs will automatically reset the number of exposures back to ‘1′ before advancing the film to the next frame. It’s always better to verify this.

In adobe photoshop changing the way the picture looks is as easy as 1 - 2 - 3, the tones you can create are amazing. A few examples are: Black and White, Everyone loves black and white photography. In the past you had to use separate film if you wanted black and white images. In digital photography all images are typically photographed in color and the converted to black and white on the computer. This means that you can experiment by turning your photos to black and white. Sepia Tone: Transform your photos into works of art using sepia coloring. Color/Black and White Mix: Mixing black and white with color has become a popular effect among wedding and artistic photographers. Typically, most of the image will be black and white while only certain objects in the image are in color. This can create a striking effect. You can easily learn this technique in Photoshop and amaze your family and friends with your photo creations.

Some things you are going to have to do to start up a photography business are: you have to do is get all the equipment that you’re going to need. This is going to vary depending on what kind of field you want to get into. For example, if you’re planning to become a photographer who specializes in stock car racing, then you are going to need a lot of equipment for taking high speed photos. The good news is that you’re not going to have to spend a lot of money on lighting since these photos will be taken outdoors. Conversely, if you’re planning to photograph fashion models, lighting is going to be critical to your photos and your lighting equipment expense is going to be quite high.

Start learning more about Digital Photography faster

by Dan Feildman

Landscapes are one of the most continually photographed subjects. Impressed by an attractive scene, most people quickly pick up the camera and snap. Unfortunately, the results are all to often disappointing. The real scene has the direct experience of the sun’s warmth, the breeze and general atmosphere. The photograph obviously misses these features. The real scene also has a depth and the eye moves around the landscape, seeing objects close by and far away, and so deliberately putting some depth into the photograph can make a great difference to the effectiveness of the picture. A few moments used to select the right viewpoint can be well spent so it’s best to avoid shooting too quickly. Look for ways to give the picture depth with a foreground, mid-ground and distance. This can often be achieved simply by moving one’s position just a few feet.

The next thing you have to do is get all the equipment that you’re going to need. The next thing you’re going to need to do is advertise. You’ll have to print out business cards, take out ads in magazines and newspapers and more or less get the word out that you exist. If you’re hoping to break into the field taking photos for a magazine like Playboy, then you’re going to have to first get some private work photographing models in order to submit these photos to the magazine itself. Before you do that though, you’re going to have to write to the magazine for permission to send photos. Most publications do not accept unsolicited material.

By using digital photography, even the novice photographer has the capability to produce professional quality pictures at a fraction of the cost. Photography has been around for a long time, and people have always wanted their memories captured to last for generations. By using digital photography, the photography community has opened up the doors for photo sharing in every technological form if one has the right equipment. The first thing that a person must invest in when thinking of using digital photography is the right camera. In order to understand what constitutes the right camera for someone, a person must understand how exactly the digital camera works. A digital camera works is by using an electronic device to store and capture an image into binary data. In other words, the picture is turned into a form of information that can be understood by a computer’s electronic brain.

Anyone who wants to learn how to be a photographer doesn’t have to enroll for many years to get a degree. There are colleges who offer this as one of the subjects which the student may take as an elective. Can you still learn how to be a photographer being out of school for many years? The answer is yes. The only thing needed is your dedication to learn from the proper techniques and a camera to take some shots. Some students don’t have to go to campus anymore. There are some institutions that offer distance education. A good example is the New York Institute of Photography. You will learn everything from exposure, lenses, the various techniques used to cover different events, journalism and much more. Being affiliated with the school, you will be entitled to free online magazine articles such as contests and digital imaging.

The first thing you need to make sure of is that the school/community college you’re attending is an accredited school. This means that the school is legitimate. I have seen WAY too many advertisements on the Internet and in local newspapers for Digital Photography classes only to find out that this is just some guy or girl teaching out of their apartments. C’mon! By going to an accredited university you are ensured that you will be getting your money’s worth, and that the class will be taught be someone competent and who went through an enormous amount of education that they are now passing along to you!

There are many people who want to make photography as their career. Many people find it fulfilling to engage in a life of taking pictures. This venture entails a good photography education. Just like any other kind of school, the appropriate selection of a photography school which will meet the needs of the students is essential for a good education. This article tries to lay down some tips on how you can choose a good photography school. Listed below are the tips: - Look at the bigger picture: In choosing a photography school, you must be able to look from afar to able to see the bigger picture. The selection of a photography school must be made under consideration of your general career goals. There are several tracks which can be taken in the field of photography.

To keep yourself enthusiastic about your subject, you might want to shoot two or maybe three projects at a time. Spend a Saturday afternoon shooting your local town’s attractions and people, and next weekend drive into the nearest city to shoot architecture and caf culture. But how do you choose projects that will assist in creating strong selling images? Search stock photography agencies, look through travel magazines and newspapers. What you see everyday is what sells. The key is to plan what you are going to shoot. Although we are all guided by weather conditions, it is possible to select the images you want before you arrive at your location. I rarely arrive without at least a few images mapped out in my head, and never without a shoot list. As travel photographers, it goes without saying that we have a passion for travel. It’s why we do what we do. But it is an extremely difficult business to get into. The catch 22 is that to produce a portfolio or stock image library you need time and money. To fund your photography you need to work. It will take time and dedication, but by shooting close to home you will gradually improve your photography skills and start to build a portfolio of images to be proud of. It all comes down to the way we view our surrounding.

Get tons more information about digital photography here

The Photoshop plug-ins which are available can help perform tasks much faster and more efficiently than performing these tasks by hand. The 3D plug-ins are used to create 3D images and type very quickly and elegantly. The color management Photoshop plug-ins can create new colors to correspond to the printer that you are using, or the monitor that you are using to create your graphics. The digital asset management plug-ins are used to organize all of the digital images that you have created so that finding the correct image is much easier than without it. The photographic ones give many different professional lens techniques that you can apply to any picture to create amazing effects. The basic idea is to either copy the Background Layer and make any adjustment directly to it (color adjustments, sharpening, bluring, contrast, exposure, etc.) or make that alteration in an adjustment layer. Once you’ve made the adjusted layer (either using a duplicated layer or a true adjustment layer) then Go Overboard!! I mean it, allow yourself to go way sharp, way blurry, way magenta, way saturated, whatever you’re doing, do it more than needed.

Besides their trusty camera digital photographers need a full cache of arsenal. All digital photographers must have a complete range of adequate picture database software, this includes digital camera import and downloader software to automate the photo transfer process, a photo organizer, or a photo gallery/ album software with detailed picture database capabilities and editing software for taking care of simple but necessary picture enhancements or for the more adventurous, complete digital manipulation.- RoboImport - A very affordable digital camera import software that automates the workflow required when downloading your photographs from your digital camera or memory card reader. RoboImport will Import your photographs and rename your photos with appropriate descriptive names into a specially designated directory to be easily located when needing to access them latter. RoboImport will do much more than less respected picture management program by performing some of the more tedious but necessary digital image editing tasks without the usual fuss. It is not expected that digital image downloader software should rename your photos, RoboImport does this and more.

In earlier times, you took your snapshots with your trusty old Brownie, removed the film cartridge and dropped it off at the drug store for developing. After about a week, you picked up your prints. What you got was exactly what the film was exposed to. No cropping, no sharpening, brightness or contrast adjustments were available unless you had your own film processing and print studio. With the onset of digital photography, it has become possible for everyone to learn and perform successful photo editing. There exists a plethora of digital photography software that allow differing levels of image manipulation. With a decent digital camera, a computer with a quality printer, and one of the many versions of photo editing software, you can produce stunning photographs. You can crop for closer views of your intended subject, darken or lighten the exposure, adjust the contrast, sharpen the image, change it to black and white, sepia, or grayscale. Add a good scanner and you have the ability to edit your old standard photographs. That old faded photo of you as a child can be brought back to life with a few clicks of your mouse. With the right software, you can place objects from one photograph into another. Create a montage of any person containing their pictures from birth to present. That beautiful old Ford you took a picture of at the cruise-in brings back fond memories?

When it comes to image post-production, Photoshop has given professionals and amateurs a magic wand with which to alter and improve images. Since the advent of digital photography in the 90s, Photoshop has been the standard with which photographers improve finished photo quality. Photoshop is also changing the art scene, allowing artists to create original pieces or artwork using program tools. Photoshop artwork has appeared in books, comic books, architecture designs and more notably, in special-effect films. Photoshop has become so popular that the word ‘photoshopping’ has already ingrained itself in our vocabulary. Photoshopping has actually made careers, fed media frenzy, made paparazzis happy and changed the way we see things, often literally. In pop culture, Photoshop in becomingly increasingly prevalent, appearing in almost every other photo for image-hungry consumers to devour. The irony is, Photoshop is so popular that images have to appear that they haven’t undergone tweaking in order to be declared as Photoshop-perfect.

If you are a home user or hobbyist, save your money and go with Photoshop Elements instead of Photoshop CS. It has all the features of Photoshop that you are likely to ever need. Some of the features in Photoshop CS that are not included in Photoshop Elements are: CMYK and LAB color modes, More tools and features that work with high-bit (16-bit and 32-bit) images,Combine multiple exposures to create high dynamic range (HDR) images Channels Palette, Recording custom Actions (for batch processing), Adjustments: Color Balance, Match Color, Layer Masks, Layer Comps, and Quick Mask mode, Smart Objects, Smart Guides

When you are working on a picture you will find that you need a specific color from one area of the picture to also be on a different area. Photoshop has a handy tool made exactly for this, it is called the eyedropper tool. When you use the eyedropper tool then you can even pick up a color not only from the image opened in the Photoshop’s workspace but from other applications too. Look at the picture below. We reduced the size of the Photoshop window. We want to pick up the color of the sky from a photo on a web-page (Internet Explorer). This makes the eyedropper a very handy tool for what you will need in other applications or simple inside photoshop.

Filters will allow you to be able to apply different feelings to a picture. By applying different filters, you can change the color of an image to a single one, converted it to black and white or a sepia tone. The possibilities for adding and varying creative filter effects are virtually endless. To change the intensity of a filter, some programs let you “fade” the effect directly after it is applied. If you use layers, the transparency of the layer where the filter was applied can be reduced.

Want to know some great tips for editing digital photography?

by Dan Brown

One problem people face when starting out with digital photography is how to touch up raw digital images. Perhaps an image is slightly dark, perhaps it has to be rotated or cropped. Maybe some dirty spots have to be cleaned out and erased. Digital photos usually require some form of manipulation before final output, unless, of course one takes a perfect picture. The first step is to find an image editor. For beginners, a program that has easy, simple tools will do just fine. More advanced people can move on to more complicated programs.

There are many pictures that you’ve probably taken that would’ve looked great… except for the red-eye. Just about every graphics program has a red-eye removal, so that no matter what level your program is you’ll be able to remove the red-eye. However, in order to prevent it in the first place, it helps to know what causes it. Red-eye is caused by the flash reflecting to the back of the eyes all the way to the retina, and the red comes from the blood vessels in the eye. Therefore, if you flash a light in the eyes of your subject, this will cause the pupil to contract, and then there won’t be any red-eye.

If you’ve taken a photo in a wrong orientation, it’s easily corrected with little loss in quality by using a rotate tool. You’ll also want to do some cropping of your photo to remove cluttered surroundings that draw attention away from your subject. Many photographs benefit from being cropped to show the most important feature and to remove the unwanted area around it. In fact, cropping is the single fix that is most likely to improve your photos. Your photo editing software will offer different methods of cropping your photos once you’ve downloaded them onto your computer. You might be surprised when you start cropping images very tightly and using shapes, as to just how different your image looks and how much of an improvement it makes.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with colors. Image editing programs put a lot of power in your hands. You can make the leaves purple, change the entire photo to black and white, add a sepia effect - almost anything you want. A good photo editing program will have automatic color balance options to adjust color defects in your pictures. You can do just about anything you want. All you have to do is play around until you have a result you like.

Unsharp masking is an image manipulation technique now familiar to many users of digital image processing software, but it seems to have been first used in Germany in the 1930s as a way of increasing the acutance, or apparent sharpness, of photographic images. The “unsharp” of the name derives from the fact that the technique uses a blurred, or “unsharp”, positive to create a “mask” of the original image. The unsharped mask is then combined with the negative, creating the illusion that the resulting image is sharper than the original. Digital unsharp masking is a flexible and powerful way to increase sharpness, especially in scanned images. However, it is easy to create unwanted and conspicuous edge effects. On the other hand these effects can be used creatively, especially if one channel of images in RGB or Lab colour space is selected for unsharp masking.

When you email pictures to friends, you will notice it usually takes a very long time to attach the files. This is because the size of the picture is probably too large to process well. In order to reduce the size of the file, you must reduce the size of the picture. Your editing program will most likely have an option that allows you to change the dimensions of the images, which will change the size. Usually you would use this option to make images smaller, not larger, as the quality would be greatly reduced.

Saving your pictures in the appropriate format is very important to ensure the best quality. If you are planning to continue to work with a certain picture, save it as a TIFF image, as it will retain all the detail of the picture. However, if you want a compressed image and you are done working with it, you can save it as a JPEG. Although a JPEG is a lossy file format, it does not lose enough data to be noticeably visible, and it is a good compressing format. This means it will make the size of the file smaller. As long as you don’t keep opening, editing, and saving a JPEG image, you won’t get too much degradation of the photo.

Learn Digital Phoptography

by Warren Dixon

Question: What do you think of digital photography? Answer: For many years I was a dedicated film user and was reluctant to switch to digital. With a few Photoshop classes for nature photographers behind me I wish I had made the switch years earlier. Digital cameras and Photoshop are incredibly powerful tools and they will only get better. There are a plethora of choices today! I personally have converted to this new medium, (thus I don’t have to pack bags of film or worry about airport X-ray issues!) I have the following points to offer you: If you are buying an SLR camera that will take your existing interchangeable lenses, expect to spend serious money. The Nikon D100 body alone can be found selling for about U.S. $ 1,000.00 (May 2006), and the excellent new Nikon D70 for $ 999.00.

Do you do digital photography or use film? We still have film, but use that as back up. Our digital equipment will allow us to make up to 30 x 40 prints of the same quality that we would get when we shot with our medium format film camera’s.Digital photography is just as good if not better than 35 mm photography. Prints for digital images make beautiful enlargements up to 20 x 30 inches. Digital photography is useful when you will require enlargements larger than 11×14 inches in size.

What are the best digital photography web sites? Luminous Landscape (useful comparisons shot with different gear, but I often disagree with their conclusions)I no longer own a Sony camera and many of the questions and answers in that section were becoming outdated.

What can I do to improve my digital photography? Digital cameras offer you a very important advantage over film. They give you the capability to see and evaluate your pictures immediately. The downside of digital cameras, though, is that they are not nearly as forgiving of mistakes as film. For example, film has an extremely wide exposure latitudethe amount you can miss your exposure by and still get a good printthat extends from one stop under to three stops over. Digital cameras give you only plus or minus 1/2 stop.Film allows more room for error in terms of exposure, lighting, or processing damage. As far as photo quality, you can expect digital to look just as good as, or even better than film.

What if I need digital photography for my website? You can either shoot your own photos, borrow a friends digital camera, or if you live within 50 miles from Carlton, MN, we can come to your location and take digital photos for you. If you send us raw photos that need to be edited, scanned, enhanced, resized, etc., there may be a small fee for editing, depending upon what has to be done. Please see our contract for more detailed information.Answer: For many years I was a dedicated film user and was reluctant to switch to digital.

What is your opinion of digital photography ? There is no question that some of today’s digital cameras can produce an image that is sharper and shows more detail than film. But digital is a very different medium than film and I still feel film has some useful qualities that are not yet present in digital. Also film can always be scanned into a digital format later (the way most Hollywood movies and TV commercials and shows are made.) The critical factor for you should be how good the photographer is at using the medium of their choice.A. I never have to limit the number of images I can photograph at your wedding. I am not wasting film, so I can keep shooting until I get the exact moment I want. B. We used to be limited to the type of film in our camera, no more. Now I can give you any image you want in color, black & white or sepia. C.

How to Your Sell Photos

by Diane Kelly

Photography jobs are just very hard to get as they have always been. Nothing new there. Competition is gruesome but selling your photos as stock is an idea to consider. What that means is stock photo companies show your images on the net for rental. People who need your image will buy the right to use it in anyway they see fit. Check out the internet for stock photo houses. Photos.com is an example of a popular company to visit.

A stock house will specialize their images by theme. For instance some handle photos of people and others animals and even others only industrial shots. You have to find the house that you want to shoot for and contract with them.

All photographers are not an Ansel Adams especially not a beginner. Equipment can make a big difference. Get good equipment! That is, do not break the bank but get the best that you can afford. I don’t guess I have to tell you that film is dead so go strictly digital. Nikon, Olympus and Canon offer some very good and very expensive camera bodies and lenses. If you are willing learn what you are doing it can be worth it.

A piece of gear that has proven helpful is a light meter. Not a first purchase but later when you become proficient. You might ask yourself why would I need a light meter since ALL digital cameras have one built in. Well the built ins are handy but should not be totally depended on because it if effected by the subject of the photo instead of the light falling on the subject. Lighting is a very big deal.

Look around at your favorite haunts for good on location photos. Make sure the location is easy to get to. What could be a worse than a photo job to go very badly when your bride to be has to march through a ravine to have her portrait taken. Your first commission could easily go awry.

Lessons are a good step to take so ask anyone you know that knows about photography. Community colleges offer classes and a group situation could teach you a lot. Shoot constantly with your equipment. The more intimate you are with your gear the more knowledgeable you will become. You could even get good at photography.

You may have to give up your copyright to be stock photographer. That means that once the photo is uploaded and or purchased whoever pays for the use of that photo can use it as many times as they want where and how they want. You have no control and make no more money. That could be ok because you are doing something that you love to do and sharing it with all the world.

Of greatest importance is shoot photos. As they say, don’t leave home without it. Bring it to the zoo, to the country and to the beach. Sunsets are a gas and so are sunrises and you cannot believe what marvelous images can be made during those times. Keep on taking photos and have fun.
