Graduation Scrapbook: Ideas for High School Graduation Memories

Share
by Christine Perry

Did your child graduate this year? Four years of high school seems to go by so fast. Wasn’t it just yesterday that are graduates started kindergarten? Now they’ll be headed off to college by fall. Don’t forget to preserve and document your child’s high school graduation memories with a graduation scrapbook.

Even though you have a school scrapbooking oben for your child, you’ll still want a high school graduation scrapbook album. High school memories can fill an entire album. You can choose a small album, but remember if you want to accommodate senior portraits, you’ll want a larger scrapbook.

Senior pictures are usually taken the summer before a student’s senior year. Still, they deserve a page in a graduation album. Use your favorite pose or the one used in the high school yearbook for your graduation scrapbook’s title page.

There’s so much to include in a graduation scrapbook. Reserve one copy of your child’s graduation announcement and showcase it on a page. Following that page, include cards and letters from family and friends, especially ones with graduation advice. You might even include a letter from you with a personal message to the graduate. Write your hopes and dreams for their future along with advice you wish you would have been given on graduation day.

Highlight any special awards or honors that your child is receiving at the graduation ceremony. Designed page layouts to highlight these accomplishments. You may want to include the original certificates or make copies.

If your child is giving a speech at the graduation ceremony, take some photographs of the graduate preparing and practicing the speech. Preserve his notes including any drafts and use them on a scrapbook page.

Newspapers often cover graduations. Clip articles from your local paper for a graduation scrapbook page. If you or another family member have placed a congratulations newspaper ad for your graduate, make a photocopy of it to preserve it in the album. Newspaper articles tend to fade over time, and copies will last longer.

There are so many photo opportunities during a graduation ceremony. Make a list of photos you want to take before the ceremony. Don’t forget to include pictures of your child with his family, friends and teachers. Include high school mementoes in the scrapbook album. One page layout should show the graduation ceremony program. Scrapbook two copies on the page showing both the cover and the inside as much as possible.

Create a special scrapbook page for the graduation ceremony program. Save at least 2 copies of it so you can show both the front cover and the inside on a page layout.

Candid shots are a fun way to document graduation parties. Send a camera with your child when he attends graduation celebrations. Plan to exchange photographs with your child’s friends as well. That way you’ll have plenty of candid photos to choose from for your graduation album.

You may want to include a copy of your graduate’s final report card or grade transcripts. A nice complement to this would be a copy of the acceptance letter to the college he plans to attend.

The final closing page to the graduation scrapbook could be a photograph of him leaving for college. You might also choose to include a picture of his first day of kindergarten alongside a graduation picture.

It’s easy to create a graduation scrapbook that will soon become a family heirloom. The most important part of designing a graduation scrapbook is to document and preserve your child’s high school memories.

Reinventing Old Photographs

Share
by David Peters

Back in the day, when you took a photo you were pretty much stuck with it. Altering the image after the fact was a black art known to few, and available to less than that. This is no longer the case. With the advent of digital imaging and more specifically, Adobe Photoshop, image editing has reached new heights of manipulative wizardry, allowing a competent user to not only touch up a photo, but to practically reinvent the image. Let’s look at a few of the more basic things that Photoshop can do in the hands of even the most novice of users.

Got an awful blemish on that photo you want to post on Facebook? Not a problem with Photoshop’s retouching tools, which can render even the most hideous acne invisible with the stroke of a few keys.

Have any treasured photos that have been damaged by time? Torn or worn photos? With Photoshop you can scan a photo and retouch tears and scars, water damage and more to repair photos to new and even revitalize colors that may have faded through time. Saving family heirlooms alone make Photoshop worthwhile.

You will never have to have a closed eye again! So what if somebody blinked at the wrong time, with Photoshop, you can open their eyes easily.

Is their an ex in a picture that you would otherwise love? Erase them! You can remove them from your photo as if they were never there to begin with. In fact, you can remove almost any unwanted object from you photo. If only life were that easy!

Photoshop has a great many more features that can help transform your photos from a contribution to the circular file to an image you’ll want to treasure and share for years to come.

Restoring old photos to former glory and retouching other photos is one of the great advances in modern photography, due in large part to Photoshop. Start learning how Adobe Photoshop can make your photos sparkle!

Choosing The Right Wedding Photographer

Share
by Jeff Glasser

Choosing the right wedding photographer to document your wedding could be one of the most important choices that you make for your wedding day. Having the right wedding photographer for your wedding day will determine the quality and the creativity of your wedding photographs and ensure that you have a lasting reminder of the day that you and your love became one. Picking the right professional wedding photographer can be a difficult choice, but by keeping a few things in mind you can choose the photographer that is best for your needs.

Professionalism

Professionalism and their ability to get the job done is one of the most important things to look for in a wedding photographer. There are many things that can be used to judge the professionalism of a wedding photographer, including their manner when setting the appointment, whether they are prepared for the job when they arrive, whether they arrive on time consistently, and how they act while they are taking the photographs. You would be better served by hiring a different photographer if he is unable to act professionally during the job.

Some of this may be difficult to judge before the wedding so it is important to obtain reviews about the wedding photographer prior to hiring them for the job. The reviews can be obtained from previous clients of the photographer, testimonials that the photographer has available, or community websites that allow consumers to post reviews about the businesses in the area. These reviews will give you a good picture of what other consumers thought about the wedding photographer and can save you from making a bad decision on which photographer to choose.

Experience

When you are trying to choose the best photographer for your wedding, the experience of the photographer is also important. Photographers that have more experience may know more tips and tricks to obtain just the right lighting for the picture, which poses would look best with the bride’s dress, and how to arrange everyone for the group picture so that everyone is showcased in their best light. Although the number of years the photography studio has been in business will give you a good idea of how much experience the wedding photographer has, it never hurts to ask how long they have been in the business.

Price

Another thing that will need to be taken into consideration when choosing which photography studio to give your business to is the price of the wedding photographer. Most people do not want the price of their wedding photographer to cost as much as the honeymoon, but they want to be sure that they are obtaining a professional photographer and not someone that does photography on the side for extra cash. When you budget the amount of money that will be needed to pay for the wedding, be sure to budget enough for the photographer, that you can hire a professional that will do a great job on your wedding photographs.

Digital Photography Courses – Where Can I Find Them?

Share
by Vincent Manga

Have you ever considered taking up photography lessons? Are you fed up with not being able to produce the perfect pictures you want? Maybe it’s time to enroll in some digital photography lessons. Most of us never stop to think about taking up digital photography lessons, but really there is no reason not to.

This is probably due to the fact that pretty much all of us do some photography in our lives and so we take it for granted and don’t consider improving our skills. But the way I see it, since we do do so much of it, surely it makes sense for us to improve so that each time we can achieve a better result.

Where Can You Find Digital Photography Lessons?

If you happen to live within a reasonable distance of a College you may want to find out what they have to offer in terms of after-school classes for photography.

In community colleges it is more than likely that you will find a whole host of different courses you can attend from basic photography right up to professional photography.

You can also ask in all of your local photography stores to see if they have their own teaching programs.

Quite a number of the big chains that specialize in photography and things related to it, indeed have their very own courses, however even if the ones in your area do not it is highly possible they can help you find good photography courses in your area.

How Much Do Photography Lessons Cost?

Digital photography courses vary in price depending upon the level being taught and of course who is actually doing the teaching. Although it isn’t always the case, it is possible to get free courses at the basic level from local councils.

If you are going to learn basic point and shoot things at your digital photography classes, then chances are they are going to be relatively inexpensive.

But, professional courses on the other hand will more than likely cost you a fair bit more since they will be teaching you the abilities necessary to go into the photography industry for yourself.

If you love photography, finding good photography courses in your area should not be a problem, unless of course you live in the middle of nowhere, in which case you may find yourself having to do a little more traveling.

Digital Photo Calendars Made Simple

Share
by David Peters

Are you leaving your finest photographs collecting digital dust on your hard drive? Do you have vivid, ‘precious moment’ images that you’d like to look at more often? If so, how about turning them into a one-of-a-kind, custom digital photo calendar?

Of course, everyone knows that not all of our photos will be perfect… But some will jump right out at you and remind you of certain times and ‘warm feeling’ experiences. Grab these images! You’re about to put them into your own portfolio – and showcase them proudly to the world (or at least, to your ‘inner circle’ of family and friends!)

For an abundance of good reasons, it’s great to share our family or ‘good times’ images with others. In fact, you’re naturally inclined to want ‘everyone’ to see them… But how? And ‘what’s the best way to do this?’

One fun and yet practical way is through a simple digital photo calendar. Of course in this case we’re not talking about literally an actual ‘digital photo calendar’ (even though it is one in its own right). In simple terms we are making an interesting and personalized wall calendar using your own digital photos.

To put in simply, you can create a “photo calendar” that you can print out, give to your friends and family, hang on your wall, sell on your website, promote across the Internetthe possibilities are endless.

So let’s go ahead and actually build ourselves one of these cool little photo calendars.

Let’s take a look at the steps.

To begin, simply pick out some of your favorite photos to be included in our project. Next involves a little bit of research, but I’ve done a bit of that to help you save some time and make things easier for you. Here are some places where you can easily transform your digital photos into a photo calendar

Here’s a few websites that will make that transformation for you: www.bighugelabs.com, www.desktopwallpaperphotos.com, www.snapfish.com and www.cafepress.com. The first two sites listed will give you a free digital version of your calendar that you can download to your hard drive and then print out or save to a CD/take to a print shop. The others provide a ‘real’ wall or desk calendar that you can purchase and then ‘send’ to yourself, or a friend.

Knowing which website to use is probably the hardest thing to figure out and decide on when turning your “plain” photos into a calendar. The rest is actually pretty simple although you do need to have at least a working knowledge of how to prepare your photos before printing. There are plenty of programs, tutorials and guides that can help you accomplish this. If all else fails, get someone to help you if it proves too challenging or if you just don’t have the time.

Then just a few more simple steps…

1) Upload your photo/s to one of the photo calendar web sites above.

2) Pick a specific calendar size and other details

3) Choose on the months and/or years you want your calendar to have

4) Hit the ‘create’ button or order your own calendar

Simple, eh? Once you’ve done all that then you’ll have yourself an enjoyable photo calendar that you can then download onto your hard drive as a .PDF, or maybe a jpeg image file… Or, if you’re ‘outsourcing’ the printing, you can expect to receive your calendar in a week or so…

But overall, not too bad for a few minutes work!

Now you can take your digital photo calendar masterpiece out to impress friends and family. Be creative with it and print it out on a card, e-mail it to everyone, or just hang it on your wall for your own enjoyment. Photo calendars make a great gift and every time someone looks at it they will be reminded of you and be able to share in your special memories.
