The Best Subject in Photography

Share
by Jake Sanders

Whats the best subject in Photography? Many have been searching for the right answer without realizing it lies within the individual senses, the things that motivate the seeing, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. It all depends on the interpretation of the photographer and what techniques he’ll be using to send a message to his audience that will categorize the works as the “best” subject in photography.

Ask yourself (or rather your eyes): What do you want to see? There’s a saying that “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” therefore you alone can determine beauty. I know ideas starts to pop into your minds right now but let me share to you some of the best and simple subjects I have experimented (with astonishing results) that you might want to tackle one of these days:

1. Countryside

The subject of being free and greenery is universal. People find them attractive because the image gives them the illusion of sitting through that moment when the picture was captured and a split-second escape of their current place. The more natural your image looks the more it is inviting to the audience. Capture that lush green grasses and trees, how fluffy the nonchalant clouds under the blue wide sky, or even the nightingale sitting atop the cow. Also, try to stray away from the generic angle or position. Why not capture the shots while youre lying in the ground to make the view out of the ordinary?

2. Food

Now this one is for the photographer who wants an automatic head turn towards his work. In order for our system to work, fuel is needed and therefore food has an automatic magnetism for the five senses. Regardless of Race, Sex, or Age the subject of food for a photograph never misses. One thing you can do to standout is to put extra emphasis on the texture, color, and how real the food could get when presented in the pictures.

3. Children

Who can resist the innocent smile of a little baby girl? And a chubby little boy in his first school uniform and hat? Some might but most people turn soft by the image of a child. It takes them back, make them smile and imagine themselves in that care-free period of their lives. Even young animals like the puppy, kitten, or ducklings have the same charisma for the viewers. Remember to capture the shots without the subjects awareness because capturing their natural smile and behavior will make your photographs a stand-out in the sea of baby pictures.

4. Waterfalls, Streams, and the Beach

The image of the flowing water refreshes the eye which is why you see lots of PC screens emblazoned with wallpapers or screensavers of flowing water, the lake, beach, and even underwater scenes like the aquarium. If you want to excel in this subject then prepare to get wet; literally, because, sometimes the amazing shots are those captured from a closer view (make sure the camera you choose has water-repelling technologies and the likes).

Worst Four Discount Digital Cameras Buying Mistakes

Share
by Jake Sanders

People make mistakes and most Camera Buying is a living testament to that statement. Most people thought that if they knew about Megapixel and Zoom stuff then they dont have to worry the other features- which proved to be a terrible mistake. So before you purchase that Digital Camera in your head, here are the four mistakes in buying Digital Camera that you might want to avoid encountering.

1. Purchasing the Camera without using it first

Reviews, Specs, Features, and Comparisons are some of the basis in buying Digital Camera today and people seem to be easily caught up with this presentation. You need to like the camera first. Even if you order it online, the best advice I could give you is to hit your local camera store first and handle the camera model you have set eyes upon. The cameras online are presented with extra-emphasis littered with flowery word to seduce you but meeting that camera model beforehand will make that big difference. Try to do specific tasks, and see how hard the camera controls are to navigate.

2. Buying the Most Expensive Model

It is said that prices comes with corresponding quality based on how expensive the purchase is. Sure, who wouldnt choose the coolest, slickest, and sophisticated-looking cameras if you can afford it? But make sure it fits you. For example, if you’re new to photography you sure you can maneuver those advanced digital SLR boasting lots of manual controls? I dont think so. It’s better to look within your budget, but focus on finding the best camera for your specific needs.

3. Megapixels Exclusivity

A 10.2 Megapixel camera will prove attractive beside a 7.2 Digital Camera Model. It is only natural because we want the best to meet our expectations but also remember that Megapixel shouldnt be the only consideration. You can find 10.2 megapixel cameras that have only 3x zoom while some 7.2 models have four. And 10.2 megapixel pictures consume more space than that of 7.2s in your computer. Think beyond megapixels, because another feature (such as zoom) could be much more important for you.

5. Unsure of What You Want in a Digital Camera

Before purchasing that digital camera, you should know and why do you want that specific model. Because if you only buy camera for the sake of having a camera then thats worst than ordering food for the sake of having food. You need to know what uses or features you want the most reflecting your lifestyle. Consider making a list of your three most important features, and then rank them. That way, you can work on finding a camera that meets those needs first, and worry about extra features later.

Buying A Lens For Your Digital SLR

Share
by David Wilson

So, you have a brand new digital SLR, and might be thinking about buying some new glass to go on front. After all, being able to change out lenses is one of the best reasons to get an SLR in the first place. You will be on the hunt for new glass soon if you aren’t already.

So, you’re getting some lenses, but which ones? It really depends on a lot of different factors. What kinds of things do you want to photograph? What do you want to spend? You’ll have to be thinking about all of these things.

Let’s say you’re just an average user. Your camera probably came with a decent, versatile zoom lens. You probably want your next lens purchase to fill in a gap left by this zoom lens. Like to take wildlife or sports pictures? Then you’ll need a fast telephoto lens. Like to do landscapes? Then a wide angle zoom (or fixed) lens might be in your future.

The zoom vs. prime debate is one thing you’ll certainly come across. Primes lenses are cheaper, sharper, and faster than zoom lenses, but of course they only give you one focal length. Zooms are more versatile, so its your choice as to which you value more.

If you do a lot of low light work, like concerts, you’ll need some fast lenses. Unfortunately, fast lenses come at a huge cost premium. They are also really heavy and bulky because of all the extra glass. Still, though, they are a great item for any photographer to own.

If you’re on a budget but want the kind of image quality a mid grade consumer zoom can’t give you, check into using old manual focus prime lenses. Many modern DSLRs can take excellent manual focus lenses from as long as 45 years ago. You’d be amazed at the quality of some of these lenses.

So, you can see that there are many, many different options for getting a lens for your new DSLR. Just be sure that you figure out what you’re looking for, and you should be able to find some awesome lenses that will greatly enhance your photographic experience.

Covert Cameras

Share
by Charlie Reese

I have always liked spy toys, but covert cameras have always been my favorite. There is something about a hidden camera that is just so captivating to anyone who grew up during the Cold War. Nowadays, photographic evidence doesn’t mean quite as much as it used to ” photos can be convincingly doctored ” but there was a time when a picture was the most definite kind of proof you could get.

Covert surveillance cameras were the best weapon of law enforcement to catch dangerous fugitives or intercept spies in the midst of their dirty deeds. A covert camera could be used to bring back nuclear secrets from Russia or provide convincing evidence that a prisoner of war was still alive after being held for months.

Although some of the glamor around covert cameras has died down, the cameras themselves are better than ever. Things which were unthinkable or at least difficult to imagine 20 years ago are now a part of every day reality. You can have cameras the size of a tie pin that can get reasonably good resolution ” at least at close range. Slightly larger covert cameras can be smuggled around as lipstick, pens, or flashlights. You could even hide one in your shoe if you wanted to. Even video cameras can be made pretty tiny. I have seen covert cameras small enough to fit on a small radio controlled airplane. With the impressive mini cameras available on the consumer market, who knows what the government can do.

Of course miniaturization isn’t everything nowadays. We’ve proven that we can get covert cameras very small, but sometimes a much more normally sized camera will do quite well. A hidden camera doesn’t need to be particularly tiny if you can conceal it properly. Through camouflage, skillful placement, and proper lighting, a fairly large covert camera can go undetected for months or even years.

Even so, to me there is nothing more secure than a covert camera hidden in plain sight. Covert cameras can be disguised as pretty much anything. Your camera could be a pack of cigarettes, your lighter, or even the frame on the side of your glasses. The last one is worthy of consideration because it provides a very convenient way to aim the camera. If you can take a picture just by looking at something, your secret spying is likely to go completely unnoticed. Despite the fact that these secret cameras don’t always work as well as in the movies, quite often they give you uncanny good results. It’s all a matter of picking out the right gear, positioning it in the right way, and making sure you have the one thing that cameras will always need ” light.

Improving Your Portrait Photography – Eliminate Wrinkles!

Share
by Dan Eitreim

Your job as a photographer (whether you’re an amateur or professional) is simple. You have to make your subjects look as good as they’ve EVER looked without your tricks and techniques being obvious. That’s a task easier said than done.

Unless you are a master retoucher or spend countless hours in Photoshop (or both), it’s hard to change too much in a portrait without ruining it. To get seamless retouches, You need to do most of your fixes “in camera”.

This first tip concerns acne and wrinkles.

It won’t take long in your photo career to realize that teens are plagued with acne and adults have wrinkles. They may or may not actually say anything to you about it, but both age groups want to eliminate or at least lessen their respective problems.

Let’s face it, as we get older our wrinkles become more pronounced and actually deeper. Wrinkles are the first photographic signs of our age but they’re a problem that is actually fairly easy to fix.

What defines a wrinkle? It’s the shadows filling in the crevices. As we get older and those crevices get deeper, the shadows become darker and darker. How to get rid of wrinkles and take years off your photographic model?

Lighten the shadow! (There’s a blinding flash of the obvious.)

What creates shadows? It’s light skimming across the face from the sides or the top. The side light is not able to get into the wrinkle crevices and creates a shadow. The deeper the wrinkle, the darker the shadow. This can (and does) add a lot of visual years to our subject.

So, going in reverse, avoid hard side lighting! Pretty simple. By having the light aimed directly into the face, it will penetrate to the bottom of the wrinkles’ crevice and either lighten or totally eliminate the shadow. Obviously giving your model a younger appearance and saving you a lot of time in Photoshop.

Acne? Use the same cure. Acne scars, pimples and other facial blemishes are at least partially defined by the shadows they cast on the face. Again, light skimming the face from the side will cast longer and harder shadows thus making the acne scars more pronounced and pimples appear larger. Shine your light directly into the face and they will be minimized or disappear altogether.

Use a reflector of some sort or even your on camera flash in addition to the sun to fill in the shadows. Your smooth faced teens and wrinkle free adults will thank you.

You now know as much as most professionals! Now it’s time to make some money with YOUR camera! to see how easy this is, follow one of the links to my site…
